A vacation destination for over 100 years
Nestled on what is known as "The Great Plateau" at the top of the Pocono Mountains, nearly 2,000 feet above sea level, Lake Naomi Club, has an incomparable setting in what, for a century, has been a haven for those who love the good life of sports and the out-of-doors.
In 1895, Lake Naomi was created by impounding a spring fed, trout fishing stream, the Tunkhannock Creek. Originally the Lake supported a successful ice farming business which thrived until the advent of artificial refrigeration.
Records indicate that visitors from the metropolitan areas started vacationing here as early as 1888 to enjoy the cool air and clean water. In 1902, as both rail and automobile transportation improved, people began arriving in even greater numbers. In the same year the first bathing beach was created and lots were subdivided and sold to summer cottagers.
In 1916, Camp Owaissa, a premier camp for girls, opened on the northern shore of Lake Naomi and continued until 1966. In addition to water sports, crafts and general camp activities, it had its own horse stables and featured equestrian activities. In 1921, a large, modern boat house and beach were constructed on the site of today's Lake Naomi Clubhouse and became the basis from which all grew that we enjoy today.
In 1963 the Logan Steele family purchased 2,600 acres surrounding the lake which began the current history of this community. Timber Trails was created in 1973 as a second generation sister community to Lake Naomi. Planning for Timber Trails provided for larger building sites plus a gated entrance to assure privacy for its homeowners. Additionally, a challenging 9 hole executive golf course was included to expand the sports programs offered to owners. Today the Lake Naomi - Timber Trails community continues in the same tradition creating a value-oriented quality retreat where families and friends gather together to recreate in one special wonderful environment.
Since the creation of the beach and boat house in 1921, the qualities found most desirable by so many have been enhanced to meet the expectations of sports and outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Feature amenities today include the 277 acre Lake Naomi with seven private sand beaches and marinas, 2 heated outdoor pools including a wonderful 50 meter heated outdoor pool overlooking Lake Naomi, 18 soft surface tennis courts, a clubhouse for your dining and dancing pleasure, a new 48,000 sq. ft. community center with indoor pool, fitness center, gym and activity rooms plus a highly evolved comprehensive children's activity program. In addition to these feature amenities a number of important complementary facilities complete the full spectrum of sports, recreation and social opportunities for members.
